Relationships and attitudes are positive and an environment exists in which working and learning becomes an enjoyable and fulfilling experience for all pupils through the staff’s hard work and dedication. Exciting opportunities for learning are offered both throughout the school day and beyond. At all times we strive for the highest standards in all areas of a rich curriculum for our children using the fantastic space inside and outside classrooms.

The whole school community were involved in the words that sum up what we want from our school and where we want to be and this is reflected in our new Aims and Values with our motto of 'Aim High....Fly High!'

School Council Interview Mrs Blackburne-Maze
  1. How long have you been teaching?

I trained to be a teacher when my own sons were very young and I have now been teaching for 14 years.

  2. Why did you become a teacher?

My eldest son’s Reception class teacher inspired me to train to become a teacher. She was so kind to children and adults alike as well as being approachable and funny. She encouraged a love of learning in my son that I wanted to be able to do for other children.

  3. What is your favourite sport?

I have 3 football mad sons and, as they were growing up, I used to spend my weekends watching them play matches – so I like football! I also go to watch Ipswich Town play home matches whenever I get the chance. I enjoy swimming and playing badminton to keep fit. I have also just started a running club for staff here at school and we try to run around the daily mile track twice a week.

  4. What is your favourite subject?

When I was at school I loved history, English and French. I went on to study history and French at university because I enjoyed them so much. As a teacher, I surprised myself by enjoying teaching maths the most.

  5. Are you musical?

I very much enjoy listening to music and going to see live music being performed and I regret not being able to play any musical instruments.

  1. What is your favourite country to travel to?

My family live in Cornwall so I enjoy travelling in this country to visit them. I lived in Switzerland for 2 years as a student and the countryside there is spectacular. I would like to travel to Vietnam to learn more about its history and to visit its beautiful beaches.

  2. Do you speak any other languages and which ones?

I spent many years learning French but I haven’t been able to practise this recently so I can’t speak it as well as I would like. I also learnt some German and a little bit of Spanish. I would love to learn some of the many languages children at our school can speak.

  3. Who is your favourite author?

When I was young, I enjoyed reading books by Enid Blyton, especially the Famous Five and Secret Seven. When I have been teaching, I enjoyed reading books by Julia Donaldson and Lissa Evans to my classes. Reading is one of my favourite hobbies and I devour books! I really enjoy reading the books that J K Rowling writes for adults.

  4. If you weren’t a teacher, what job would you do?

When I was your age, I wanted to be a police officer then, as a student, I wanted to work for the United Nations. So I expect I would be doing a job that helped people in some way if I wasn’t a teacher now.

  5. If you could make one change to the world, what would it be?

I would make sure all the children in the world have a safe place to live and have an education.
